Welcome
Dear friend of Child Welfare Tshwane
Child Welfare Tshwane (CWT) celebrated their 90th anniversary in June 2008 and we look back on a proud history that started with the opening of a children’s home for 27 children. Since then, our services have grown to include eleven community offices, with numerous successful projects serving families and children in their own communities.
7 COMMUNITY- BASED SERVICE OFFICES at Atteridgeville, Mamelodi, Eersterust, Olievenhoutbosch, Centurion, Elandspoort, Pretoria Central . Beneficiaries of services are mainly orphaned and vulnerable children and families in need of social, emotional and financial support.
RESIDENTIAL CARE FACILITIES - Bramley Children’s Home accommodates 54 children in terms of the Child Care Act. A holistic service is delivered which focuses on the physical and emotional care of the children, family reunification services, as well as medical and religious care. The Itumeleng Shelter is a residential facility accommodating 18 boys under the age of 16 years, who have been working and living on the streets, mainly in Sunnyside.
SPESIALISED SERVICES - The Therapy Unit is based in Sunnyside. Services offered are assessment and therapy including individual, family as well as play therapy. People are referred to the unit by all units at Child Welfare Tshwane as well as the larger community. This unit also offers basic training programmes. Our Adoptions unit place ±45 children per annum with adoptive parents. Children are either abandoned babies or signed off to be adopted. Student supervision
HIV/AIDS — Child Welfare Tshwane offers spesialised services to people living with HIV/Aids. The Ford Care Centre provides a holistic day care service to people living with HIV/Aids as well as a home-based care service delivered by volunteers to orphaned and vulnerable children (Iso la bantwana). Through a Mothusi outreach programme the community is informed about the reality of HIV/Aids. This programme is facilitated by people who are HIV- positive and who share their testimony with community members, encouraging them to be tested.
